Taking our concerns to Albany

Children’s School parents Emily Fisher (4th grade parent), Nina Crews (2nd grade parent), and Rafael Gomez Luna (Kindergarten parent), went to Albany on Wednesday, March 11th to visit legislators, joining schools from all over New York State to talk about the education proposal.

We delivered petition letters from PS 372 parents and staff to Assembly Members JoAnne Simon, James Brennan and Assistant Speaker Felix Ortiz. We also met with Assembly Member Barbara Clarke. We were warmly welcomed and assured by all of their commitment to work towards more education funding and their concerns about this budget bill. The Assembly has offered a proposal that includes 1.8 billion for schools and rejected changes to the teacher evaluation system. But the State Senate has a different proposal. They’d also give the schools more money, but would maintain Cuomo’s plan to make teacher evaluations count for 50% of their performance rating and give our principal a 15% say in the quality of his teacher’s work.

We still have a fight ahead of us. Take a moment if you can and let the Governor know where you stand. http://www.parentvoicesny.org/fight-against-cuomo/ The budget will be voted on April 1. Lets keep making noise!
