Welcome from Ms. Rosa!

September 1, 2016

Dear Children’s School Students and Families,

I am so excited to welcome you to the 2016–2017 school year at The Children’s School!  I hope you enjoyed your summer relaxing and making wonderful memories with friends and family.  My family and I visited fun parks like Sesame Place and spent quality time in Massachusetts visiting family.  We had a great six weeks of Summer school.  Students enjoyed participating in new and exciting programs like tennis, swimming, gardening and Mighty Milers.  I can’t wait to hear more about each of your summer adventures!

September 8th will be a normal school day with students arriving at 8:20 am and leaving at 2:40 pm in our Main building and 8:10 am till 2:30 pm at our ASD site located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Kindergarten students will enjoy a half-day on September 8th and be dismissed at 11:30am.  Pre-K students will follow the transition schedule sent to them by their teachers.

All students who are walking to school will enter through the schoolyard gates on Whitwell Place.  The gates will open daily at 8:05 am and close at 8:22 am.  For families who are in need of Early Morning drop off, Ms. Yvette, our Parent Coordinator, worked hard this summer putting in place two wonderful programs.  Please register at inclusions.org/morning-care-program for either Monkey Do Yoga or Kids in the Game.  Both programs will accept children from 7:30 am till 8:20 am.  Otherwise, parents are expected to supervise their child(ren) in the schoolyard from 8:05 am to 8:20 am.  For a more detailed Morning Policy procedures, please visit inclusions.org/morning-arrival-procedures.

I am so excited to welcome all of our new families and look forward to getting to know each of you within the next few weeks.  Saturday, September 17th will be our New Family Picnic from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm in our schoolyard.  We hope that you can all make this PTA sponsored event.  Please also join us for our first General PTA meeting on September 21st in our cafeteria beginning at 8:30 am.

There are many exciting things in the works for this new school year.  Our students will create a newspaper with the support of the Speech department.  Pre-K students  will now receive Science Education from our Early Childhood Science program.  Early Childhood Science will continue working with Grades K, 1 and 2 and Upper Elementary Science program will continue for grades 3-5.  At our ASD site, Science will be programmed for all of our K-8 students.  At our Main building, students will participate in a recycling lunch club, which supports the new Zero Waste initiative.

So many wonderful things are in store for this coming year and I look forward to a wonderful year of learning with all of you!

Warmest Regards,
