Ready, Set, Read!
When
The whole month of February 2023
Mission
A fun school community event that celebrates reading while empowering students to participate in fundraising for PS 372. All of the money raised will go directly to fund our school, 10% of which will go to support our school libraries at both sites.
How it Works
Our goal is to make this event accessible to every member of our school community. Like last year’s Readathon, everything will be managed online. All logging will be done through a single main caregiver account instead of individual student accounts. Older students are free to sign up and manage their own accounts however we highly recommend NOT using PS372 issued student email addresses due to the inability for outside communication with those accounts.
If you have already created an account on Inclusions for Stay & Play (our Afterschool Program), you can use that same account to log in to your Readathon dashboard. If you don’t yet have an account with Inclusions you may register for one on your Readathon Dashboard.
Once you have logged in you can log student reading, track progress, and view sponsors. Student books, reading minutes and student names will only be available to each student. We will only share whole class and grade participation on student dashboards.
Students participating in Ready, Set, Read! record their minutes read (outside of the classroom) every day in their virtual reading log. Books count! Reading on a Tablet counts! Magazines count! Comics count! Newspapers count! Homework reading counts! Students who are not reading independently should include the minutes they are read to by an adult (or other independent reader) or otherwise engaging with books.
Tally Days will be virtual so that Team Readathon can send updates about how class participation is progressing. There will still be Milestone Minute Badges that will be awarded at the end of the Readathon. At the end of February, we’ll place students into the appropriate Milestone Minute drawings and announce them schoolwide.
If internet access is an issue, paper logs are available from school in English and Spanish.
Sponsors
Ask family, friends, and co-workers to sponsor students for either an amount per minute of reading or with a lump sum donation. We have created a convenient email form where you may email up to 15 sponsors automatically with a pre-written script that explains our Readathon and requests a donation for your specific student. Sponsors can donate at any time between now and the end of February 2023.
