PTA Meeting Minutes

PTA Welcome: Co-Presidents Denise and Lucia welcomed those present and provided upcoming events: Spring Gala & Silent Auction on Saturday, May 10th in the evening (adults only). Parents are encouraged to donate goods and services to the event. PTA Fun Run on Saturday, May 10th at 9:00 am. All are welcome. Event details to follow from parent Samantha Cassidy. PTA Executive Board elections will take place in May. Call for nominations forthcoming. All parents/guardians are encouraged to run for a position. Denise and Lucia are “retiring” in June from their role as co-presidents.

UFT Report: Nothing new to report; still no teacher contract.

Parent Coordinator’s Report: Reminder to parents to complete the school survey. Deadline is Friday, April 11th.

Principal’s Report: Mr. Artie commented on the recent ELA test. There is currently no real opt-out choice, but the DoE is said to support opting out if parents choose. Parents should ask Parent Coordinator if they have questions about opting their children out of the tests. The Math test will be April 30-May 1.

Traffic safety around school has improved somewhat with the new DOT signage. Administration continues to work with parents and the community to continue to improve safety for our students.

Special Event: Screening of the documentary That’s A Family! Parent Molly Castelloe coordinated the screening and fielded questions afterward. The film highlighted how every family is unique and that there are many different ways a family comes together. Anyone interested in seeing the film can borrow it from the PTA office.
