As Halloween approaches, here’s some info about the Blue and Teal Pumpkin Projects.

The Blue Pumpkin Project is for children with autism/special needs. If you see a child (or even an older teen/adult) with a blue plastic pumpkin or treat bag, please be aware that they might not be able to communicate verbally and say, “Trick or Treat.”

The Teal Pumpkin Project is for children with food allergies. Displaying a teal pumpkin on your stoop, or a teal pumpkin picture on your door means you have non-food items to hand out (like stickers, temporary tattoos, etc.).

You might also see a child carrying a teal plastic pumpkin or treat bag, as a sign that they have food allergies. And while they’re still food items (so technically not “teal pumpkin project approved,”) there are also companies like Enjoy Life and YumEarth that are allergy aware/friendly.
