Countdown to School

School starts on Thursday, Sept. 8th! Gates and doors open at 8:10 am and will close at 8:15 am.

Class letters have been mailed home. School staff is on vacation until the week before school so please be mindful with any requests before then.

For now, here’s some PTA info for families old and new.

There is a general PTA meeting each month. Everyone with a child at PS 372 is automatically part of the PTA – there’s no need to join as a general member. All community members are encouraged to attend the meetings. The first meeting is scheduled for Sept. 14 at 6:45 PM and will be held virtually.

We have a new president and some new members of the Executive Board. We are still looking for a co-treasurer who knows their way around QuickBooks or wants to learn, and a new family representative to be voted in at the September meeting.

The PTA can only run and support our school community with the help of adult volunteers. There are plenty of opportunities to help, for jobs big and small. Each schoolwide event is run by a separate committee. You can be on one committee or many, or volunteer for specific jobs during an event without being on the committee.

Some committees need new leadership or they won’t be able to continue (or return) like Carnival and Gear. Other committees include Movie Night, Read-a-thon, Pizza Friday, Valentine’s Dance, Auction/Gala, Garden and Fundraising. You can email volunteers@ps372pta.org to express interest, or look for committees in Konstella.

Other ways to help include being a Class Parent to act as an important liaison between PTA, families and teachers. Class parents typically organize a class directory (youngest grades only), coordinate donations from parents for classroom teachers and organize Staff Appreciation Day projects at the end of the year.

PTA funds go toward equipment and technology (iPads, microphones, air filters), classroom mini-grants, enrichment opportunities like art, music, chess, bridge and circus study, opera and more, teachers’ professional development programs, making schoolwide events free-of-charge and much, much, much more!

Donations are fully tax-deductible and gifts of any size are always welcome. You can donate online, or by cash or check sent to the school in an envelope marked PTA (and made out to PTA of PS372). We participate in Employer Matching Gift programs (like Benevity) and will help with paperwork. (Check early as there might be deadlines!)
