PS 372 PTA MEETING
March 22, 2023,
Virtual Attendees: 32
ROSA AMATO, Principal
Just the highlights!
School Surveys
Please, parents, send in or complete online the DOE surveys that have gone out. Only 50 parents have responded this year, out of a 450-person student body.
(Link to survey HERE)
Absenteeism and Lateness Are a Problem
Chronic absenteeism = missing 10% or more of the academic school year (2 or more days per month)
Severe Chronic Absenteeism = Missing 20% or more of the academic year (2 months of school)
Lateness: Arriving at 8:25 and beyond is our biggest challenge. Responsive Classroom and Reading Instruction occurs the first hour of the day.
(absent is absent; sick day is absent but coded “sick”)
Playgrounds
Big Yard AND Little Yard will be redone, huge thanks to Jessie Childs and Stephanie Shaw
COSTA KOKKINOS
Our wonderful new social worker and school counselor was introduced, and introduced to us the practice of Restorative Circles, which Costa has already been putting into practice with 5-1!
Restorative Circles are a technique for proactively building the skills and relationships students will need when challenges arise.
- Provides a space for students to express themselves
- To learn to listen
- To build a sense of community
- To prevent conflicts before they arise
- To better manage incidents in the moment
Please fill out THIS FORM if you have questions for Costa.
(Rosa notes that parents will not be informed of anything that comes up in Restorative Circles, which are level-setting and confidential spaces between teachers and students, unless harm or self-harm is raised)
