Corn is the centerpiece in the Three Sisters, a garden-based learning practice that involves planting corn, beans and squash in the tradition of the Iroquois people.
Today the 3rd graders planted corn, the first element of a Three Sisters Garden. Next, the kids–with the help of Ms. Chandra (pictured) and Ms. Sarah–will plant beans and squash before the end of the school year.
With any luck, as 4th graders, they’ll harvest the corn, beans and squash while they study other aspects of Native American culture. Learn more about 372’s Grow-to-Learn garden here. Or just jump in and sign up to water –volunteers needed!
