Review/Recent Events – Merideth

  • Lice Check – first of three – went smoothly
  • Clothing Swap/Movie Night – Rio
    • Very popular
    • Planning another one in January
    • Used Book Swap – should be great right before Readathon starts
  • Pizza Friday Started – if you haven’t signed up, do so right away
  • Picture Day – 1st year with Stomping Ground
    • Was a fun day
    • Retake day December 14th
    • Sibling Photo Day – sign up to schedule photos
  • Roots & Community
    • Awesome participation from families hosting tables
    • kids had passports to tour the different cultures
  • No December meeting – will include updates for Dec. and Jan. now

 

Book Fair

  • Partnered with Community Bookstore again this year
  • Nov. 14th & 15th – for students and open for parents during Teacher Conferences
  • Nov. 19th at 6:1:1 site

 

Annual Appeal – Merideth

  • Letters have been sent out
  • Appeal is our largest fundraiser of the year
  • Trying to reach goal of 50% participation
  • Participation matters for grants and funding from external sources

 

Parent Coordinator Announcements – Yvette

  • Parent Teacher Conferences (Nov 15) – Half-day for students
    • Please pick up your children on time
    • No after-school or enrichment
    • If your children come with you, please keep them from roaming around
    • Related Services
      • Speech – afternoon & evening
      • OT/PT – 1-3 pm
      • Counselors – check availability – some afternoon or evening
    • Specialty Teachers – available during both sessions
  • UNICEF boxes – extending collection to Friday
  • CHIPS Food Drive
    • Collecting until Nov. 28th
    • Student Council will deliver to CHIPS
  • Middle School Meeting
    • Impact of new diversity initiative
    • No appeals of match results

 

Winter Festival – Ms. Sandi

  • Younger grades (PreK – 2nd Grade) – 9:00 am
  • Upper grades (3rd – 5th Grades) – 10:45 am
  • Chorus, Dancers, and Band perform during both sessions
  • Support school at apparel, Annual Appeal and Bake Sale tables

 

Arts & Science Day – Peter Kerlin & Liza Gouger

  • Scheduled for January 26th from noon – 4pm — free admission
  • Soliciting ideas for table projects – some returning, but room for new ideas!
    • Currently ideas include: Slime, Paper Airplanes, Brush Calligraphy, Printmaking, Open Mic Performers
  • In January will be recruiting volunteers to help run tables and events

 

CEC15 Update – Kathy Price

  • CEC15 is the “School Board” for District 15 – regular public meetings
  • Our school has Admin designation of only District 75, should be dual
  • Need to get our school included in D15 activities with a voice
  • Get our PTA included in District President’s Council
  • We need a voice in projects, planning & school siting, diversity initiatives, etc.
  • Parents can run for positions, nominations in February
  • Elections in early 2019

 

Principal’s Update – Ms. Rosa

  • Our blend of District 75 and District 15 is unique
  • Who wants to organize a group of parents to help keep us connected to D15?
  • Tracking down our $100K grant – Sen. Hamilton’s office not sure where it is
    • Brooklyner article covered the current details
    • School Facilities Dept. getting involved on planning
  • Trying to reduce lateness – best for classes if everyone present on time
  • 3 school Diversity Project – ⅓ of seat reserved for low income and ESL children
  • Kindergarten admission starting soon – sibling priority
    • December 6th is Open House – tell your neighbors
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences tomorrow afternoon & evening
  • Lead Test Update
    • Flushing water at start of every week (test is on stagnant water)
    • Sinks and fountains with high concentrations are shut off
    • Facilities is working to replace plumbing and eliminate lead sources

 

Foley Firs

  • Run a donation program for schools from their tree sales each year
  • Sales start 2 days after Thanksgiving to the day before Christmas
  • Located at 724 8th Ave. or online at www.foleyfirs.com
  • Free delivery and set up for every tree
  • Tell them you’re from PS372 and we get $10/tree sold, tell your neighbors!

 

Treasurers’ Update – Shashin Gandhi

  • Middle of our fundraisers – so can tell you how we’re doing so far
  • Pizza Friday – raised $35K – but some money is from pre-payments for Spring
  • Annual Appeal – $10K since letters went out
