PTA June Meeting Minutes 6/13/18

Welcome – Jessica & Merideth – Co-Presidents

A lot going on today – Thanks for coming
Staff Appreciation Lunch was great
- Class Parents did a great job organizing teacher gifts
- Raffle was lots of fun – many nice donations – everyone was eager to see all the great prizes

SLT Nomination deadline extended until today
- Need a paragraph or two about yourself submitted for parents to vote on
- Election happening soon

Gear and Tickets (both Luna Park and Cyclones) on sale at front table
- Talk to Peter Strong to purchase

Thank you and goodbye to some long-term PTA officers who are “graduating” this year
- Rai and Nina
- We’ll miss your energy and advice next year

School Announcements – Ms. Bridget – Assistant Principal, Special Education

Thanks to PTA generosity, reading curriculum kits for all grades have arrived
School Safety
- 7 new, secure doors have been installed
- 7 more are in process to improve classroom safety and security
- Bars have been provided to every classroom

7 Staff are retiring – they will be greatly missed

Carnival
- morning arrival will be different on Carnival Day
- since setup will be happening in gym and big yard, there will be no entry there
- use door beside gates to big yard
- parents will not be able to escort kids to classrooms

Math Curriculum changes
- working to make curriculum suit all the learner levels that we have

Self-addressed, stamped envelopes
- If you haven’t yet, please send in 2 Self-addressed, stamped envelopes so August mailings will reach you.
Report cards
- Will be sent home in backpacks on the last day of school
- If your child won’t be attending school that day, you can pick up the report card during summer school (July 5 – August 14)
- We cannot mail the report cards, as they usually have other documentation with them

Treasurer Report – Desiree Detoy – Co-Treasurer

Fundraising
- We raised $191, 000 this year, which was $4,000 better than we needed to meet our budget.
- Some money is still arriving as the Luna Park and Cyclone tickets are still being sold.
Surplus
- This gives us some surplus, so we’re use it to help fund next year’s expenses.

Budget Planning for 2018-2019 – we must vote today to approve budget for next year
- We want to use our surplus to expand support of our school activities.
- Propose Fully funding (eliminate admission/fee):
  - Arts & Science Day
  - Valentine’s Dance
  - Lice Day
  - School Carnival
- Contribute to funding for:
  - Wellness Day
  - Grade-level trips
- Additional enrichment activities:
  - Maker Space
  - ASD trips and training
  - Responsive Classroom training
- Increased funding:
  - Diversity-One School, One Book
  - Science EC

Additional Spending Votes – Jessica & Merideth – Co-Presidents

Air Conditioning for Cafeteria – Total cost is $35,000 – voted to approve
- We have the funds to cover this from our surplus, which has built up from years of careful spending.
- After School would cover 20% = $8,000
- PTA would cover 80% = $27,500
- We already have $14,000 approved, so today we vote on the remaining $13,500.
- During early stages of the project, we discovered that the electrical boxes will need to be upgraded in our old building to handle the new air conditioners.
- voting now to use additional funds from PTA and After School surpluses to fund the electrical work for the air conditioners

Science supplies – $2,700 – voted to approve
- upgrading Science materials, DOE contributing some funding too

Voting for New PTA Executive Board for next year – Laura Mantell – Nominating Committee

first issue – do we want to increase the Member-at-Large positions to 3? Voted Yes
Presenting the Proposed Slate of officers – all running uncontested

Morning arrival changed to accommodate deliver and setup of the bouncy houses in yard and gym
