School Wide Lice Checks: Permission and Payment due Monday 9/15

The PTA has secured the services of a professional lice consultant to conduct three school-wide lice checks this year. The first date is this coming Monday.  We sent home the permission slip/payment form via children’s folders. We will be collecting money and permission slips at one time for all three lice check dates. Please send $15 in cash or check made out to the “PTA of PS 372” to cover the cost of the head check, along with the permission slip attached. If you would like your child checked but cannot afford the fee, please indicate your wish to be sponsored by the PTA on the permission slip. Here is a pdf of the paper form: Permission Slip for School-wide Lice Checks which was sent via e-mail and the backpacks.

Another option this year is to complete an online form for permission and payment/sponsorship.

Why are we checking for lice?

Cases of lice are already emerging in our school. As lice is highly contagious, early detection can stop a school wide outbreak in its tracks! There were numerous cases of lice in the school last year.

What happens if my child is found to have lice?

If your child is identified as having lice, you will be called to pick up your child so the condition will not spread further. You will be given a handout about what you need to do to thoroughly rid your child’s head, your family, and home of lice and their eggs. You can also get information about receiving treatment from one of the lice experts who conduct the head checks. Having lice is in NO WAY a reflection of the cleanliness of the home, but getting rid of them does require a concerted effort on the part of our whole community.
