We are planning the third annual schoolwide camping trip for the weekend of June 8th – 10th, 2018. We have chosen Taconic State Park Copake Falls in southeastern Columbia County. This is a school event, but your family is responsible for making your own reservation at the camp ground, planning your own travel there and back, and bringing your own food and supplies. It’s not too late to join!
The plan is to meet there for a two night stay (there is a two night minimum at the camp ground). Please make your reservation as soon as possible! The campground fills up quickly. You can reserve a space through the campsite’s online reservation site.
Please Note: We have chosen Loop A as a starting point and if it fills up then we can also expand to additional loops. (See more on logistics further down.)
About: Taconic State Park Copake Falls is in southeastern Columbia County and consists of more than 5,000 acres of land along an 11-mile border separating New York from Massachusetts and Connecticut. This is a great campground for families because of the many different camping accommodation options for different family needs. Copake Falls has more than 100 campsites for tents and trailer. There are 5 Bash Bish cabins, 7 Ironworkers cabins and 6 year-round Greenwich cabins that accommodate from 4 to 6 people in each.
There are lots of activities available at this campsite including hiking, swimming in the lake, picnicking, boating at Rudd Pond, bicycling and rollerblading on the rail trail, basketball, softball, and a playground.
Logistics: We are going to all meet at loop A for campsite camping. Each of the campsites have a picnic table and fireplace with cooking grate. Tent platform sites will accommodate free standing tents up to 14 feet by 16 feet. Platform sites are as follows; Loop A: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 30. The campsites are approximately $22 per night.
If you prefer to stay in a cabin or cottage here is some information. Cabins GH1,GH2,GH3 and GH4 ,GH6 and GH7 are reservable year-round. Cabin capacity is 4 or 6 people depending on the unit, including children. Exceeding cabin limits will void the reservation. The fees of the cabins start at $116.25 per night.
We can plan to share and/or have meals together – there will be a potluck on Saturday night so please bring something to share with the group: each family is responsible for their own food supplies and camping supplies.
Social: We have a social group on Konstella to share camping tips and coordinate meals and activities. Click on the “social groups” tab on the right side of the Konstella home page, you will see “End of year camping trip” in the list of groups you can join.
