On the last day before break, the third grade took over the gym for a China celebration. Each class shared an original Ribbon Dance, choreographed by students. Many parents attended, and small groups of dancers took their turns performing. Each group had a unique and interesting dance all their own — some incorporated hops and jumps, others rhythmic dance movements.
In addition, the three classes performed a dance together.
The Celebration was a culmination of a two-month study that began in late January with a trip to the Chen Dance Center in Manhattan. The dance and visual arts experience was integrated with their classroom study of China.
Student watercolor paintings, inspired by Chinese watercolor, were be on display.
Many thanks to Sandi Gonzalez, our amazing Dance Specialist, for helping our children discover the art of choreography through ribbon dance.
