The Garden to Café chef will be on site Tuesday, June 20th to offer students a summer harvest tasting. This program is free to students and features sampling of seasonal dishes inspired by our school garden (and sourced by local farmers markets). On the menu:

  • Microgreen Salad with Persian Cucumbers
  • Cherry Tomatoes and Basil Vinaigrette
  • Baked Apples with Honey and Cinnamon

Schools with active Grow To Learn gardens are eligible for harvest celebrations every year. There’s a lot to celebrate!  The Inclusions School Garden, now in the middle of it’s 4th season, promises to be especially successful this year. Concord grapes are growing on the vine, strawberries are back, along with basil, oregano and other herbs. Carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and ground cherries are on their way; lemon balm, lemon verbena and lavender and other plants from the sensory bed promise to flavor great tea in the near future.

See photos and recipes from previous harvest celebrations here.

We can’t maintain our community garden with you! The families, students and staff members who ensure the plants thrive by committing to care for them.

Be sure to attend a 5-minute garden care demo if you are interested in harvesting from the school garden this summer. Garden is bursting with produce during July and August, and the committee needs help harvesting in July and especially in August, after summer school ends.  Thanks to the irrigation system, the work is minimal.  Weekend responsibilities include checking the beds for problems (like pests or fungus) and watering the pollinator-supporting native plants on Denton Place using water from the rain barrels. It’s easy – all you need is a demo and a key for the gate.

We’re holding quickie demos after drop off and after pickup on several school days before the last day of school.  Click here to see the demo schedule, or just grab a parent gardener when you spot them in the garden and ask to see the rain barrels, timer and get a key. Thank you.
