Garden committee members worked hard, in damp conditions, to put the edible garden to bed for the winter and relocate big planters from the courtyard.
- Half the team removed dirt and plants from planters inside the little yard.
- While the others cut down and cleared the raised beds.
- Our goals: To move the planters out of the courtyard…
- Pull up…(Those sunflower roots are no joke!)
- clear out the edibles…
- Replenish all the planters with soil and compost,
- Remove the irrigation tubes and prep the edible beds,
- plant some garlic (which overwinters)
- and broadcast rye seeds
- for a cover crop that will improve the soil.
- Brie took home the last sunflower…
- And the planters are ready to house milkweed and other pollinator-friendly, non-edible plants.
- Good as new!
