Thanks to the generosity of Butterfly Project NYC, we have a slew of new baby butterfly-friendly native plants from their Fall workshop. In the spring, we were grateful to accept from the group many plants that welcomed butterflies (and caterpillars) along with other pollinators this summer. Now we have a few more to get into beds and containers ASAP. These include:
- Showy goldenrod (solidago speciosa)
- Praire Dropseed (sporobolus heterolepis)
- Threadlef coreopsis (Coreopsis verticillata)
- Purple lovegrass (Eragrostis spectabilis)
- Trumpet honeysuckle vine (Lonicera sempervirens)
- Swamp Rosemallow (Hibiscus moscheutos)
- Golden zizia (Zizia aurea)
- Appalachian mountain mint (Pycnanthemum flexuosum)
- Sedge (Carex appalachica) * needs part to full shade
- Swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata)
- Redosier dogwood shrub (cornus sericea) * needs partial shade
