PTA Meeting Minutes and Election Results – June 14, 2017

We had our last meeting of the 2016-17 school year and elected a new Executive Board.

Thanks to Nina Crews for being a fantastic, organized, rock-star PTA President this year, and to all of this year’s PTA board members!

Nina Crews — PTA President

  • We are making changes to the bylaws to be in compliance with DOE guidelines
  • We have a new slate of PTA officers to vote in, all uncontested:pta_June_14_mtg
    • Co Presidents: Merideth Finn-Beers & Jessica Miksis
    • Co-VPs: Scotte Hardin & Rafael Gomez Luna
    • Treasurer:  Desiree Detoy
    • Recording Secretary: Liza Gouger
    • Corresponding Secretary: Lisa Chamberlain
    • Ex Officio: Nina Crews
    • Members At Large: Rai Ariz & Ian Cooley
    • New Parent Member At Large: TBD
    • Teacher Representative: Amy Vagetatos
    • ASD Parent Representative: Layale Hamdan
  • All voted in by those present – none opposed.

Radha – Budget

  • See budget for details.
  • Two items added as permanent budget items (one book, one school and field day t-shirts)
  • All in favor — none opposed

Ms. Rosa Update

  • This is an amazing PTA — it’s been a wonderful year
  • Tomorrow is fifth grade dance
  • Postcard event in beginning of school year — asking for kids to send
  • Marina has been working on art throughout the building so kids can see their work
  • Parent commented on stairwell — so much brighter!
  • Parent question – new hours of 8:20-3:10 next year. We’ll start dismissal earlier — Instructional day is just as long. We’ll start day on time.
  • Rai: Fourth grade trip — is going to be early on in the year

Yvette

  • Great school year — thank you everyone!
  • Last day of regular after school is Friday the 23rd — no after school Mon & Tues
  • Half day on Wednesday, June 28

Guest Speaker from Brooklyn Public Library – Carroll Street: Jody Shaw

  • Reading is like a muscle so it’s important to keep reading all summer.
  • We have a summer reading program at the library — kids need to come to library to sign up
  • There’s a game board — they complete
  • Can win 12 books
  • Can also sign up for beanstack — can enter to win a Kindle — they also get schwag
  • Reading anything is fine — fine if it’s below grade level
  • There are 60 branches in the system — we have something going on every day during the time
  • Tech time, Minecraft on Wednesday, games on Thursday, every other Friday is movie day
  • New library cards
  • Ebooks & audiobooks — you can download the Overdrive app or the new app — Simply E
  • Can put hold on any books anywhere on hold and they’ll be delivered to your library
