Dear New and Returning Children’s School Families,
We would like to welcome new students and their families to The Children’s School! We are so happy that your child will be joining our wonderful school in the fall. As parents of current Children’s School students, we know how exciting and challenging a new school can be for both children and their families, even if older siblings are already at the school. On behalf of the PTA, we’d like to provide you with some information on upcoming events and a sampling of what goes on during the school year. Participating in these events is a great way to get to know the teachers, staff, and fellow parents/caregivers who form such a wonderful and caring community around our children. We also encourage you to contact us (PTA Co-Presidents) as well as Roxanna Velandria (Parent Coordinator) and the other parents listed at the end of this note with any questions you may have about the school.
New and Returning Families Picnic on Sunday, August 12 @ 2pm. This will be a potluck picnic that will take place in Sunset Park. In addition to families, some of The Children’s School staff will also be attending to answer questions for new parents. Roxanna Velandria (Parent Coordinator) will also contact you about the picnic.
New Families Breakfast and Orientation (LOCATION: TBD) on September 7th from 8:30-10:00 and 11:00-12:30 (timeslot depends on your phase-in schedule, which you will receive from your child’s teachers later this summer). This event will provide the opportunity for new families to meet School Staff, PTA members, After School representatives, as well as other families, and ask questions.
A SAMPLING OF CHILDREN’S SCHOOL EVENTS
PTA Meetings: Please come to our monthly PTA meetings to catch up on all of the goings on and important news around school. We plan to have a meet and greet opportunity at our first meeting of the year and look forward to seeing you there! Date and time TBA.
Family Fridays on the first Friday of every month during which parents may visit the classrooms from 8:20-9:00 to do activities with the children.
Winter Festival in December that features a performance by each grade as well as performances by lunch clubs such as Chorus and after-school enrichment such as Haitian Dance. In addition, families can enter a raffle to win one of our fantastic themed gift baskets created by each class in the school!
Arts Day featuring a variety of performances, tons of fun activities such as printmaking, costume making, Lego building, string art, and textile design. There is also an amazing Silent Art Auction, a student art sale, and fabulous food/baked goods for sale.
Plus many more exciting events throughout the year, including a Valentine’s Day Dance Party, Fall and Spring book fairs, Pizza Fridays, and a multitude of spring performances by the students. Volunteers will be recruited for many of these events, so stay tuned for further opportunities to get involved.
