Tiger Swallowtail Spotted

Butterfly Sighting!

Tiger swallowtail on butterfly bushes at 512 Carroll Street

Sunday, July 26th, around 10am, near the corner of Carroll St. and Denton Pl. It was checking out the flowers near the church.

I’m pretty sure it is a Tiger Swallowtail, a species that lays eggs on birch and other hosts. Not sure we have any host plants in our garden…We may want to add some next year.

Click through to see other species of Lepidoptera, such as white cabbage moth, black swallowtail and painted ladies, that we’ve captured via camera in our garden.(Monarchs were spotted but not photographed in Fall 2014) You can learn more about our pollinator-friendly plants here. –-Denise
