Dear PS 372 Community,
On behalf of the School Administration and the PTA of PS 372, we are very excited to welcome our new and returning students, and their families, to The Children’s School for the 2017-2018 school year! Look for our PTA Welcome table in the big yard tomorrow (our rain location is the cafeteria). We will have coffee, juice and bagels for all.
Below we have compiled some information to get you started with the new school year. FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Thursday, September 7, 2017, 8:20 a.m.
For Kindergarten only – The first day of school is a half day with dismissal at 11:45 a.m. Kindergarteners will eat lunch on the first day of school.
For Pre-K – There will be a phase-in period during the first few days of school. You should have been provided with your child’s phase-in schedule already. If you do not have this information, please contact our Parent Coordinator Yvette Agas-Bautz at yvette.agasbautz@ps372.net, call her at 718-624-5271, ext.1011 or visit her office in Room 101 of the main building.
CONSTRUCTION NOTE
Due to construction, there is NO Parking on Carroll Street.
A reminder that there is never parking on 1st Street because it is the school bus zone.
SCHOOL HOURS
Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) through 5th Grade – Regular Hours are 8:20am to 3:10pm
ASD Site – Regular Hours are 8:10am – 3:00pm
WHAT TO BRING TO SCHOOL
Please bring a backpack and any other items your teachers have requested. There is school lunch which you must sign up for. Please go www.myschoolbucks.com If your child does not eat school lunch, please bring lunch from home.

ARRIVAL

Please read this for a quick overview:
Our breakfast program begins at 8:00 a.m. Enter through the Carroll Street doors until 8:15 am.
The school gates on Whitwell Place open at 8:10 a.m. and close at 8:22 a.m. Classroom line up begins at 8:18 a.m. During this time, parents are asked to supervise their children until the class teachers have arrived. School begins at 8:20am. Please be on time so that your child does not miss our Responsive Classroom morning meetings at 8:25 a.m. which are held in every classroom in our school.
Students arriving after 8:25am will be considered late.
Please note that if you enter the school building, you must have ID for our school security guard. See the full arrival procedures for all other details.
DISMISSAL
Children who take the bus will be escorted to their buses by teachers.
For walkers, dismissal procedures are as follows:
- Pre-K students will be picked up in their classrooms.
- All other grades are dismissed outside of the school building. During our dismissal, students must “high-five” or shake hands with one of the teachers before they leave with their adult.
Dismissal Locations by Grades for K-5 (See the map with school and surrounding streets below):
- Kindergarten – at Denton Place at the Recreation Center Building
- 1st Grade – at the Carroll Street Entrance (closest to the church)
- 2nd and 3rd Grades – at Whitwell Place, North Entrance (closest to Carroll Street)
- 4th and 5th Grades – at Whitwell Place, South Entrance (closest to the big yard)
AFTER SCHOOL
Regular after school lasts from 3:10 to 6pm. There is a registration fee of $30 per child as well as a cost per day. After School is available for all children starting on their first full day of school. If you have questions, please e-mail Janine DiLorenzo the after school registrar at asregistrar@gmail.com. You may also visit her in the cafeteria in the main building at 512 Carroll Street.
Later in the fall, the after school enrichment program will start. Information about the enrichment program will be coming out soon.

September 7 – First full day for Kindergarten
September 13 – 1st PTA General Meeting of the year at 8:30am in the cafeteria. We will discuss upcoming events, fundraising, the budget, and all the ways (big and small!) you can get involved in our school.
September 16 – Welcome Potluck Picnic for New Families from 12-4PM at School.
September 18 – New Families Orientation Breakfast for families of children in Grades PreK-5 at 8:30am in the cafeteria.
September 27 – Meet & Greet related service providers (Speech, OT, PT, Counseling, etc.)

COMMUNICATION BASICS
All children are provided folders for sending things to and from school. Please check your child’s folder every day after school for important information. Many teachers also send information via e-mail.
There will be a number of forms sent home in your children’s folders during the first week of school. Please fill them out as soon as you get them and return them to school via your children’s folders.
Please make sure that you are registered for Konstella, which is PS372’s online communication system. Also, registered users, please make sure that you have updated your child’s classroom info. If you need assistance signing up for onset, please email us at info@ps372pta.org

Be a Class Parent:
Class parents make an important contribution to our school community by keeping all the parents informed of class issues, school events and by assisting the teachers and children in your child’s class with various projects. Sign up to help your child’s class!
Families of New Students: Don’t forget the New Families Potluck Picnic on Saturday, September 16th at 12 PM at The Children’s School. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to get to know each other better and is always a wonderful event. You should have received a Punchbowl evite already.
