PTA May Meeting Minutes 5/9/18

Welcome – Jessica & Merideth

      • First we’ll have updates from Ms. Rosa and Ms. Yvette, then we’ll continue with other PTA announcements

 

Principal’s Updates – Ms. Rosa Amato

  • Spare Change Fundraiser – Ms. Bridget & Student Council
    • Collection effort was a success
    • Money raised was donated to support local charities
  • Summer School Program
    • No after-school available
    • In school activities – golf, tennis, sprinklers, etc.
    • District 75 program – may be room for others that need support
  • Kindergarten Step-up & 5th Grade Graduation coming up
  • Engineering Week – May 24th
    • Please send in supplies
  • Construction Update – Carroll Street to be torn up again
  • By September – new PA & FIre systems will be installed
  • After-School program next year – some changes
    • Homework help by school staff during 1st hour
    • KING coaches take over for activities
  • Teachers having meetings working on curriculum planning currently

 

Announcements – Ms. Yvette – Parent Coordinator

  • Field Day on May 15th
    • Thanks to PTA for supplying all Field Day shirts!
    • Congratulations to 4-3 Daniel Orr for the winning design
    • Parents welcome to meet at Parade Grounds 10-10:30am
    • Please dress kids for the weather – sunscreen, hats, etc. 
    • No dismissal from Parade Grounds – all kids must return to school on busses
  • Although my youngest child is graduating from The Children’s School this year, I will not be leaving my job as Parent Coordinator.

 

Garden Committee – Lindsay Ackroyd

  • Garden is a living classroom – all kids, all grades are involved
  • Grow to Learn Grant 
    • Extending bird study program with bird houses, feeders, binoculars
    • Insect study as well
  • Recruiting parents to get involved
    • Need help with photos and social media activity
    • General garden activities – watering, planting, harvesting, etc.
    • Committee Chairs will be 5th Grade Parents next year – want to build committee to continue developing and supporting the garden.

 

Wellness Committee – Paula Szuchman

  • Relaxation Break – flute music by Madeline Solomon
  • Wellness Fair on May 19th come out and visit, sign up to help if you can

 

School Carnival – June 14th

  • Volunteer signups & permission slips being distributed soon
  • ASD kids coming over to enjoy activities too
  • Schedule will be distributed with signup sheets, so you know when your kid(s) are attending

 

Presidents’ Announcements – Jessica & Merideth

  • Great Auction/Party – thanks to the committee for their fabulous effort
    • Successful fundraiser – exceeded our goal (tickets, auction, & raffle)
    • Great turnout from both parents and staff
    • Fun night out for our school community
  • Gear Sales available today at table on front left of room
  • Luna Park vouchers – on sale soon, watch for flyers
  • One School, One Book (OSOB) – books for May
    • Lailah’s Lunchbox – a Ramadan story (ICT 1-5)
    • I live in Tokyo (ICT PK-K + ASD)
  • PTA Leadership Breakfast – May 23, 8:30am
  • Nominating Committee – Laura Mantell will coordinate names for new PTA Board elections
  • Diversity Committee – Participatory Budget win
    • Will hire someone over the Summer to work on Diversity Plan with 3 schools

 

Treasurer Report – Peter Strong

  • Gala/Auction – best amount raised at Gala ever for TCS
  • Currently we are ahead of Budget (revenue > expenses) = doing well this year

 

Executive Board Elections – vote at June 13th PTA Meeting

  • Positions List – essential roles
    • President (2)
    • Treasurer (2)
    • Secretary (2)
    • Vice President (2)
  • Other Positions
    • Member-at-Large (varies)
    • New Parent Representative (1)
  • Board meets 1 time per month – 7:30am

 

Ramadan – about to begin

  • School is making plans to make month easier for kids who are fasting
  • Other activities available during lunch & snack periods
  • Let families know if they are interested in discussing options

 

Staff Appreciation Day – lunch – 6/7/18

  • Come volunteer – fun day, but no childcare available
  • Help run event, lunch is catered, not a potluck
  • Requesting small items to be donated for a raffle at the event
